Children’s National seeks a dynamic candidate for the position of Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine, Joseph E. Robert, Jr., Center for Surgical Care. Children’s National is the only free standing academic children’s hospital in the DC metropolitan area. Children’s National has been in existence for more than 100 years and has rapidly expanded over the last 20 years. As a national leader in Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery and Sports Medicine, the Division has 11 specially trained faculty who represent leaders in the field and pioneers in the use of innovative techniques and minimally invasive procedures to correct bone and musculoskeletal disorders. The Division engages in scholarly clinical and basic science research, education and health care advocacy.

The Orthopaedic team treated over 1,910 operative cases last year and had 29,430 orthopaedic patient visits. Our ACGME certified program takes part in the education and training of pediatric orthopaedic fellows, rotating orthopedic residents and medical students. The Sheikh Zayed Institute affords excellent opportunities for translational research. The Chief directs all clinical, academic, research, and educational activities within the Division, and works closely with hospital administration to provide leadership and advocacy.

Candidates should possess a strong record of success in a surgical environment as well as strong leadership and administration at the Associate or Professor level. A minimum of 5-7 years of direct leadership experience is preferred. Candidates must be Pediatric Board certified or equivalent, have completed a 1 year accredited pediatric Orthopaedic fellowship or equivalent and be eligible for District of Columbia licensure. Academic appointments are with George Washington University (GWU). Compensation is competitive and benefits are excellent.
