Physician (Orthopedic Surgeon)

Will serve as attending physician to evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients and perform orthopedic procedures in the operating room.

Experience in joint replacement surgery is essential especially primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasties . Fellowship in adult joint reconstruction is an advantage.

The Orthopedic Surgeon is responsible for providing Orthopedic on-call services with the other orthopedic surgeons and you will be expected to operate on routine orthopedic trauma including hip fractures.

Will participate in physician assistant supervision along with the other orthopedic surgeons. There is good midlevel support for the department.

Will perform administrative assignments as necessary.

Basic Requirements:

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
• Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.

Physical Requirements: 

Must be able to physically and mentally perform the duties in a hospital setting under normal and emergent conditions.  Heavy lifting, 45 pounds and over; Moderate lifting, 15-44 pounds; straight pulling up to 6 hours per day; pushing up to 6 hours; reaching above shoulder; both hands required; use of arms and legs; standing up to 8 hours per day; climbing, use of legs and arms; ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination; near vision correctable at 13" to 16" to Jaeger 1 to 4; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; both eyes required; depth perception; hearing aid permitted. Environmental factors include slippery or uneven walking surfaces and working closely with others.
